I have an M2943 Apple Multiple Scan 15 monitor. It has
an audio jack in the back and one on the left side.
All that is is a pasthrough for headphones. No
speakers
in the monitor at all.

I still need to open up my AudioVision 14" to tweak
it for 832x624 mode so the image will be centered
instead of down and to the right. Works great at
640x480.

Fortunately, I don't have to pay big $ for monitors.
I know a retired US Navy man who spent his 30 years
doing electronics and radio. He sells 17" monitors
for a paltry $20 after he fixes them. He's been
throwing away 14" ones because nobody wants them,
especially the ones that are 10 or more years old.
