I was considering using a metal backing sheet, possibly using screws. (FWIW,
It's the frame the supports the trackpad click button that's broken.) I
think I like your suggestion of ABS plastic better, and I should get a
better bond glueing plastic/plastic than metal/plastic. That and most metal
sheets tend to flex.

Unfortunately, I had a slip of the fingers whilst doing the disassembly and
managed to smash one of those damn little connectors that the keyboard plugs
into. Since I'm not going to brave surface mount soldering on the scale
required to replace the thing in such cramped confines, this will entail
messy repair with my chosen glue, possibly without the benefit of a backing
sheet (given the size of the thing.)

Back to the point, from where would you get ABS glue?
