There is also AUX which you wont find a Basilisk port for.

To install linux on a 68k mac you require a need. They make good servers but poor desktop machines, you might be able to run B2 which will be slow if it runs at all or vmac which may run at some sort of speed.

Mainly I dont leave the cli, Blackbox runs ok and I'll told IceWM is lighter. You only get a percentage of the speed you get running MacOS when using a window manager.

If your happy with that install something and try for yourself.
