This is simply a sort of rant on the LC Speedster and it's ilk from long ago.
Having put the repaired Mobius LC Speedster into one of my LC's, I set it up and tried loading some standard software on it. Open Transport, OT PPP, and I.E. 3.01. Sadly, even tho' there's a 68040/40 CPU in this Mac, it KNOWS it's still a 68020 Mac. O.T. won't work. I.E. 3.01 needs more than the meager 10 megs. of RAM it has at it's disposal. I did the "right" thing for it. It's got I.E. 2.0 and I'm writing you this email on Eudora "light". I suppose this Speedster is REALLY just designed to provide quicker access to often used applications. NOT for Internet Access. <sigh>. It actually got a little weird on me while using it. It was when I discovered there was no fan in the box! My Bad? I moved the 13 inch monitor off the top, checked the CPU with my hand, and discovered it was super-hot. THAT'S why it froze when loading the Mobius control panel! Duh.... This is an interesting Accelerator. Not as much fun as those which fit into the IIci's and such, but it DOES provide a quicker LC than the stock box. Jeff -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
