That transmission tunnel style fan/speaker bracket was a criminally stupid piece if design in my book ;)
As Jeff suggested before it caused a lot of problems with oxidization of the contacts. I'd also go as far as saying it was a waste of ABS as it uses about 50x more than putting 4 snap-posts on the floor of the Mac.
Some of Apple's design ideas need some explanation...
