It's only a 2.1 gig drive, though the 50pin narrow SCSI drives tend to bring higher prices than the 68 pin wide, and those bring more than the SCA80 type.
Quite odd considering the original price structure of those three was inverted compared to what they bring on the used market. I bought an 18.2 gig Seagate, 3.5" full height SCA80 and an adaptor with both 50 and 68 pin connections for under $40. A comparable capacity 50 pin drive starts at $45 to $50 on eBay and goes up. The particular model I got supports single ended and LVD with auto sensing or can be force jumpered to SE mode. Ther's a lot of these on eBay all the time.
I've heard nothing but bad news about SCA drives and running them in Macs. I guess getting them down to 50-pin is nigh-on impossible. I expect they run OK in 68-pin rigs tho as they are really just 68-pin drives that are designed to fit in a server with hot-plug carriers that have power and SCSI in one plug.
Still I avoid them. I prefer to have 68-pin drives as they seem to work for me, or 50-pin for older buses. I will heed the warning about compaq drives though. It sounds to me like they have some sort of weirdo formatting on them that confuses Mac formatting programs. I think attacking them with Lido or Silverlining might shift that though...
Using Lido 7.56 made it take forever until after waiting for about half an
hour or more, I just shut it off, then rebooted using Drive Setup to finish
the conversion.
I nuked and paved a 9.1GB drive on the internal bus in my 9600 PowerMac in OS X 10.2 yesterday and it took over an hour. It's a very slow process. Best to find something else you can do then leave it to it.
