How many megabytes is the external drive? If it's enough to be useful running Mac OS 7.6, go for it. Set the SCSI ID to 0 and enable termination on the drive. Hopefully it just has a termination jumper and won't need resistor packs. If it needs resistor packs you can get a 50 pin passthrough terminator to plug between the drive and cable. The other thing is the drive mush be a 3.5" half height or it'll be too tall. As for the internal, looks like it's kaput. Last resort is to find someone with a PC that has a SCSI controller so they can try a low level format without any OS getting in the way. If that doesn't work, the drive is dead.
