I did a clean install of 7.5.5 by hooking the drive up to my PowerMac going through all 19 disks, and then taking out the original 20mb drive and sticking the new 8mb drive in the SE. It seems to work pretty good, although slow. I actually got PhotoShop 2.0 to launch on it, that just seems insane to me. lol. When the ethernet card arrive it's going to be come a webserver.

I got Disk Copy to make an 800k boot disk for the SE. I never knew that
about putting tape over the open hole in a disk to make it 800k.
I also got system 7.5.5 to boot up with extentions. Apparently even if
you
turn all the extensions off in the extensions manager some still remain
on
and you have to manually move them to the disabled folder. Pain in the
butt,
but it finally worked moving turning them on and off to get the system to
boot up. Thanks for all your help.

Another question... is there any way to go beyond the 4mb of RAM in an
SE?
Can those slots take 4mb simms? I'm sure virtual memory would just be
rediculous on an 8mhz machine.

Thanks
Thomas

No the SE will only see 4 mb of RAM, I would try and find an SE/30 motherboard which will solve your RAM issue (up to 128 mb) as well as the FD/HD issue. Another possibility is to find an SE HD/FD version which supported the 1.44 mb 'superdrive'.

Re bootup issues, I'd have probably done a clean install of the system on
that SE from the install disks though I don't recall 7.5.5 being
available on 800k floppy but could be wrong as I haven't parused the old
apple archives in a while.
