FTP is universal. It's also free for Linux - it's already there. Ditto for OS neXt if you're into that too. Stairways Netpresenz is old share ware that used to cost $10. They now offer Interarchy and I'm not sure Netpresenz is still on their web site www.interarchy.com. In any case I am running Netpresenz on my SE/30 with OS 7.5.3. Linux, peecee's and OS neXt all talk to it just fine. Just assign the vintage Mac an IP address and tell others about it. As for switches and hubs, I use hubs everywhere and they all run at 10 MHz. The lady has a small part of the local network where she uses switches to support 100 MHz connections. I don't see any improvement but she likes it. Be careful that many 10/100 switches will degrade everything to 10 MHz if any one connected item is so limited. (That includes pretty much all vintage Macs.) With FTP you do have to copy files and then edit them. You can't open files over the network. But then that's usually a bad idea anyway. -- --> From the U S of A, the only socialist country that refuses to admit it. <-- -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
