Did you...

a) Share the IIvx's CD, mount it on the Mac II's Desktop, and run the updater from the II? or did you...

b) Share the Mac II's HD, mount it on the IIvx, and run the updater from the IIvx?

Quickest fix may be to install a copy onto some other bootable medium (got a SCSI Zip drive, maybe?) using the vx, specifying in the install options "install for any machine".

The stock Mac II had a 68020, and doing a "simple install" version of the upgrade from the IIvx may have installed stuff that isn't backwards-compatible with the '020.

I think I may have screwed something up. I have a Macintosh II that had System 7.0 running. I used Appletalk to connect it to a IIvx with an internal CD reader and installed 7.5 over the network and then upgraded to 7.5.3. The install was successful, but when I restarted I got a "bomb" and a "bus error". I tried zapping the PRAM, and starting with no extensions, but nothing seems to work. I have upgraded several other (slightly newer) machines using the same technique and not had a problem. Is there something about the II that doesn't like 7.5.3? (And by the way, the floppy drive won't read, so I can't even use that as the startup drive.) I am ordering a couple of good floppy drives, but meanwhile I would like to see if there is a "quick fix" for the problem.
