34PICT-3 carbs which came on cars originally equipped
with alternators had a modified accelerator pump
linkage that provided the clearance you're missing.
The most elegant solution would be to find such a carb
in cheap "core" condition and transfer its linkage to
yours. It's also possible to jack the carb higher with
a spacer as you're contemplating (be wary of throttle
cable misalignment problems and the hood hitting the
aircleaner if you go this route) or you can simply
grind/file a notch in the alternator housing and/or
bend the linkage slightly to one side...
