You mentioned "craft shops", but have you looked around for a local "hobby
shop"? You want a store that sells model kits, miniature train sets &
accessories, miniature soldiers, etc. Years ago I used to do a lot of
tabletop gaming involving miniatures, recreating battles of all eras. I
didn't have a problem finding what I needed to flock the bases of the
miniatures or scenery to recreate "grass" in scale. I even made my own once
using fine sawdust and various diluted stains, but it wouldn't have the soft
fuzzy feel that you're after.

Another option is an automotive interior restoration shop.

Subject: [vintagvw] Flocking the glove box

Volks,

A back issue of "VW Trends" had a nice feature on how to restore an old
Fibrit brand VW factory glove compartment box. It involved making up a
paste of sawdust and Elmer's, and it seemed to make a beautiful product.
Right up to the flocking.

I've got a liner that I'm now almost ready to install. But it still needs
to be flocked. I spent the entire day today trying to find a good old
flocking kit -- paint plus a poofgun of those beige polyester fibers to
create the nice velvety flocked interior surface. I tried paint stores
(Porter and Sherwin-Williams), auto supply places (O'Reilly's, AutoZone, Pep
Boys, Advance), craft shops (Hobby Lobby, Plaza Art and Michael's) and a
variety of general merchandise spots (Lowe's, Home Depot, Target) -- and
mostly ended up trying to explain to a bunch of 18 year olds what "flock" is
and how it's applied. I had done this back in high school and know the
process. A guy at an Ace Hardware told me, "I been in this business 39
years and ain't never heard of 'flocking'." Sad, but I believe him.

Does anybody know a good source of supply where I could order a small
quantity of beige-tan flock and adhering paint?
