Tom, Yes, that what it is....I tried to gently pry the inner pulley off but it would not release. I will try a little harder tonight and my end up borrowing a puller.

It is the hub for the rear half of the pulley, which has been milled off on two sides to lock the front half of the pulley. The rear half of the pulley slides on the generator shaft over the woodruff key, which locks the rear half to the generator shaft. The rear half of the pulley may be frozen on the shaft, or the woodruff key may be bent and jammed. Use two large screwdrivers and try to pry the pulley off the shaft. If this does not work, get a puller. Mine was so frozen that I ruined the back half when I pulled it off. When I remove that there is a square nut on the shaft that the inner pulley fits around. I cannot remove the inner pulley. It looks like there is a keyway or woodruff key holding it on... There are shims in between but the inner nut on the shaft is holding the inner pulley in and I can't get the nut off. It looks like I need to hold the fan nut somehow with a wrench then loosen the nut to pull off the inner pulley.... If that happens, the ear will hang in the groove and the pulley can't be removed until you turn the ear to the correct position. This happened to me a couple of years ago, and I am trying to remember exactly what transpired. BTW: Make sure an appropriate number of the outer washers are installed on the shaft when you reinstall the pulley; otherwise, it will come loose again. It will seem tight when you install it, but unless the proper thickness of outer washers are installed it will shortly loosen. I checked it when I got to work and noticed the rear (FIF) part of the pulley was rotating but the front part of the pulley was not and the belt was rotating also. I removed the nut holding the rear part of the pulley on and saw that the larger "ear" was missing. The fan in the doghouse was still rotating so I'm not too worried about losing cooling but I could not get the front part of the pulley off. I don't have my manuals here. Is there a trick to getting off the front part of the pulley?
