WOW!
Thanks Marc, looking at the charts shocked me with the wide range of
different model numbers there were for the dizzys.
Here is some work I did just now.
Pulled out the dizzy from the engine. The engine number is 6410993.
The current dizzy's part number is 0 231 137 005, the VW number being 111
905 205N. This came with the smaller can (a faulty unit if I remember right) as
I mentioned earlier which I had changed over to the bigger. The cap with this
unit is a Bosch made in Taiwan item having the number 111 905 207C.
I fished out the old dizzy I had discarded from the engine. Theres a bit of
side to side play in the shaft and its missing the clips and some bits. Looked
quite worn out. Bosch part number was 0 321 137 009 and VW part number 113 905
205K. It had come with the cap 1235 522 056 which was found to be incompatible
as it was too high for the dizzy. We had been having probs with not enough
spark reaching the plugs with this wrong cap.
I found three incomplete dizzys and some loose vac cans in my parts bin too.
I had bought these to yield spares to make a good unit, washers, clips, screws
etc. The unit numbers are as follows:
1. Bosch number 0 231 147 002, VW no 111 905 205M
2. Bosch number 0 231 137 029, VW no 111 905 205T
3. Bosch number 0 231 137 009, VW no 113 905 205K. This has a big can attached.
Finally I have a complete dizzy which I had bought for someone who never
picked it up (this happens a lot of times much to my exasperation). Bosch part
number 0 231 137 039, VW part no 111 905 205AA. This has a big vac can and a
‘high’ cap.
Now we have a perfectly nifty picture to rummage our brains on. What may be the
best setup given the parts at hand??
Can look for more dizzys when I visit the junkyard this Saturday. The shop guy
had his shop cleaned and organized so I m hoping Id have a choice amongst at
least a handful of units. Have noted down the choice of three from the old
volks chart for guidance. Would stay away from the older ZV series given at
the bottom. They are rare as hens teeth anyways.
TIA
Asad.
PS: I just followed the link for the 61 to 64 bug on the chart and it gives in
the ‘can use’ section the number of the dizzy I am using (111 905 205N).
Problem solved maybe??
