Guys,

The factory brochure for the VW police models (from Aug 69 on) lists the
equipment making up the "police package."  The list includes "Abschleppösen
vorne und hinten."  But it doesn't say how these towing eyes are mounted.
The rear one (which I have) is part of the bumper bracket, but it's entirely
possible that it's welded onto the lower tube.  But the transverse tube on
my standard USA '70 chassis has no such towing eye.  

Is a puzzlement.

Note Larry's *complete* reposted message. It states that the '72 FRONT 
was welded to the axle tube or frame head as Marc stated. Not on the 
bumper bracket. I'll still have a look at AirBall though. It may be 
Tuesday before I get out there.
