Well I got the lock out of 72 Bug (it's still in the cast housing though)and 
sprayed PB Blaster in it and tapped on it to get it to unlock so i could free 
it from the housing but no luck. Key will only go down into lock about 3/4 of 
the way.

I may take it by a locksmith to see if it's salvageable. Otherwise I guess I 
buy a new lock and I'll have 2 keys - one for the ignition and one for the 
doors.

Is Mid America the best source for a new ignition lock. I'd actually like to 
find one that uses the old VW style keys.
