What is a 31pict carburetor?
Stock carb for a 1600 SP (1970 only year 1600 SP was used in USA) was a
30pict-3. A 34 pict-3 was used on 1600 Dual port engine.

Subject: [vintagvw] What's the deal with 31pict vs 34pict?

I'm building a 1600SP engine for a friend of mine and somewhere along the
line we've misplaced the 31 PICT carburetor. Now I'm wondering the
difference between the 34 pict and 31 pict carburetors actually are? I know
the flange is smaller on a 31 pict but why were 2 different carburetors
used? Was it an emissions thing?

Also, if one uses a 31 PICT on a 1600SP, will the 31 PICT need to be
rejetted in order for it work properly? If so, where does one get jets?
Can the main jet be drilled out to make it work? If so, what size do you
need to drill the hole to?

I'm a bit confused as to what displacement the 31 pict was originally used
on? Thanks for the help.
