I've had them apart, as I recall, you have to bend 
some tabs to do it.  I've not had all that much 
luck fixing them, though.  The big contacts could 
be cleaned up-  CAUTION- never clean contacts with 
emery paper, it leaves a non-conductive residue 
that will cause trouble.  Use fine sandpaper only. 
  Then wipe with a soft cloth when you are 
finished to remove the bits of sand.
