That 'quick google search" is totally wrong.;

A US-spec '74 model year VW Bus would have a 1.8 AW 65 hp engine with dual 
Solex 32PDSIT-2/ -3 one-barrel carbs.
There were no optional others, and there were no Porsche engines ever 
factory-installed in VW busses.
