Its been a long time since I was active on this list, but I still visit from time to time. I am looking at a 1974 bus at a local shop. He's asking $2600 for it. Its complete, and I'm told mechanically sound, all the interior (aftermarket) is there. The transmission is full automatic, and it has factory air which I'm told works. It needs paint (right now its just about ready for primer, and all the windows are out of it. Its been sanded to the metal, so you can see the areas that the body needs a little bondo. I see light pitting in a few spots around the windows, but no rust through. The metal on the visible panels seems solid. I have not gotten under her yet, but I will tomorrow/ this weekend.
My questions are the following: Where specifically should I check for rust? Is the price fair for that year? What is the correct engine for this bus? Any other buying advice for me?- I've never owned a bus, It seems like a nice vehicle to take the girls to the beach in or to take 'em tent camping. Erin, d'you want to weigh in on this one? This will be a recreational driver for me and the kids. I can just swing purchasing it, and I am comfortable doing paint and interior work, I'm not comfortable with mechanical stuff. Apparently I'm not as meticulous as I think, and I'm not about to get stuck with the kids on the way to the mountains in NC... (single dad, two girls). If there's anyone in the NC area that wants to take a run to Rocky mount with me.... I can buy lunch... ;) Glen [email protected] _______________________________________________ vintagvw site list [email protected] http://lists.sjsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/vintagvw
