Thanks for the comments everyone - Ray, Bert, and Mike.  When doing a RHD 
conversion on a manual transmission vehicle with a hump in the middle, you 
just about have to get all the controls over on the right hand side.  I have 
an old Baja bug that has a bus trans in it that I'm thinking of using.  It's 
got big chevy mud tires on it and I stopped working on it when I found that 
the rear control arm had been bent.  I didn't feel like taking everything 
apart and so there it sits, but with extra motiviation, I have a replacement 
set that I could put on.

I'm going to ask the postmaster today about what they would suggest or like 
me to drive.  They want something that looks decent I think and that could 
be rather relative.  RHD vehicles make the job 10 times easier and I'd love 
to do the route in a Baja.  It would be really fun.  It's a bit too much to 
think about reaching over and steering, shifting, and juggling the mail all 
at the same time.  The simpler the vehicle, the more reliable and fun it 
would be.  Really if I do the pedals and brakes (keeping in mind the 
spacers!), then doing a steering box, minor wiring, and a dash reweld 
wouldn't be too much more work.  At class yesterday, they said rear wheel 
drive vehicles are the worst on the roads, but I don't think they were 
thinking of the beetle which according to an old postal worker, was the best 
postal vehicle he ever used.  Even if you go through clutches, replacing 
them and the pressure plate isn't that big of a job.
