Hi,
You're probably right. I hadn't seen this behavior before the latest IOS upgrade.

Well, if it is a bug, the bug has been around since the iPhone first became accessible. You have always needed to wait for VO to say editing apps, not just wait for the tripple ascending tones. The triple ascending tones merely indicates that the passthrough gesture has been received. Editing apps indicates that the app has been held long enough and is now wiggling (the visual indication that the app can be removed from the switcher or moved or deleted from the home screen). In other words, it's not a bug.

Hi Julian,
I've seen this happen from time to time on my iPhone 4 from AT&T, and, in my experience, I've found that I just need to hold on the screen a little bit longer and wait until VO finally responds with "editing apps". If I release right after the tri-tone, then tap the app in question, it will probably open as you described. This seems like it's a bug in IOS 5.1, definitely worthy of reporting.

Subject: Lost the ability to kill apps in the app switcher

Hello All

Today a friend updated her Verizon iPhone 4 from IOS 4.26 to 5.01
successfully. All was great until she tried to kill the Skype app from
the app switcher by doing the usual double tap and hold but when she
does you hear the tri-tone but instead of VO saying "editing apps" it
then opens the app instead of removing it from the switcher. In fact
it won't let her use this same method to move apps either yet in the
VO practice area when she double taps and holds the gesture is
acknowledged.

I had her do the pressing of the power button 6 times, pressing the
power button then double tapping the screen to shut the phone off and
even the pressing and holding the power and home buttons to reset and
no change. I also had her check to see that Assistive touch wasn't on.
Tomorrow I'll have her try using iTunes to turn off and on VO to see
if that clears something up. If all else fails I'll have her restore
her phone via iTunes as a last resort.

If there's something else I have missed or should try please let me
know. Thanks in advance.

Julian
