Hello,

No, I have both a gmail and a me.com email addresses which are both linked to 
my account. Because both are linked, Apple did not allow me to enter either one 
in to the edit field.

The fact is, it is optional, so does not need to be filled in unless you wish 
to add another email account for safety.
