I have found that myapple BT keyboard will reliably stay connected to which ever device it with. So lets say I connect with the iPad and then turn on my iPhone, the BT keyboard will stay connected to the iPad even if blue tooth is turned on on the iPhone. To get the keyboard to swap over to the phone, I just need to either switch off blue tooth on the iPad or turn off the iPad or take it out of range. The keyboard will then pair automatically with the phone. It will stay paired with the phone till I force the phone to release it. That is, by turning off blue tooth on the phone etc. It works really well. The point is, if the keyboard is connected to device A and you want it to connect to device B, you must first break the pairing with device A.
