I do know what an iPhone looks like, and I'm sure (depending on what I'm
wearing) it might be obvious that I have an iPhone around my neck, just
as it would be if I'm holding it in my hand or clipped to my belt. If I
have an iPhone around my neck and under my shirt, even if someone does
notice it, they'd have to rip the lanyard from around my neck or take my
shirt off to get at it. BTW, that was just one example, but I can thinkg
of several reasons where I'd like to have my iPhone on a lanyard around
my neck, and it wouldn't be any less secure than several other ways to
carry an iPhone. In fact, I think I mentioned them in my message below! :-)

Bottom line is that I and others seem to think having the option of
carrying an iPhone around on a lanyard is a good idea. Furthermore, I
think whether it's secure or not depends on a lot of things, regardless
of whether you're using a lanyard or not, and it just comes down to
common sense.
