Because the battery drains significantly quicker if it is running than when it is not. I don't know for absolute 100 percent certain that it is Foresquare, but I have noticed a definite increase in battery usage when I've had it running and then closed it, verses when it is completely not running. My battery doesn't drop to 0 or anything. On average, I can go down to around 75 or 80 percent battery on a normal work day from a full 100 percent charge. When Foresquare has been open and attempted to be closed, I might drop another 10-15 percent. So not to the point of needing to put it on the charger immediatley when getting home from work, but noticeable.
