I feel like I'm weird for responding to my own messages, but that's ok.
One thing which this app also do is push notifications when you receive
new email. Of course, I think that's what got the thread discussion
about it in the first place. It does that very well by letting me know
when I have new messages in my inbox. However I don't know of a way to
get alerts for other mailboxes other than inbox. I also don't see a way
to add additional accounts. I may play with this a little more if I have
time, but at least for me, this doesn't warrant replacing the usage of
the native mail app which already does much on the iPhone.

typical male reading, replying, and composing, I can still use the
default mail app which comes with the iPhone.

notifications when the mail comes in. Why would I want the Gmail
app over

already been beaten to death, I apologize in advance - I did a super
quick search of past postings and didn't see it!
For all you Gmail users out there, the Gmail app, while not entirely
accessible in certain respects, now has push alerts for new Emails.
There have been a few alternatives that I've used in the past,
such as
the Ultimate Notifier app - which checks mail every thirty seconds -
and setting up a Google Exchange account in Mail - which has a few
bugs. Now, you can have true push notifications for your Gmail
account.
