Hi Christopher, what you can do is set up both an IMAP and an Exchange account, then in your Exchange account, turn off mail synchronization. This is an option in the account settings for your exchange account. So you'll have an exchange account syncing contacts, and a separate IMAP account for mail. I hope this is clear, it sounds complicated but this is the way my Google account is set up, and it works like a charm!
