It sounds like either your phone, your mom's phone or both are
not connected to the internet. When one or both of the phones
doing the iMessaging don't have internet, the phone will send it
as a text if you have it set up that way. Another thing that
could be happening is that either you, your mom or both turned
off iMessaging in there settings.

but it only offers text messaging. Mom has an IPhone like I do
