Hi Hank,
You might take a look at the various USB ports and other things in Device
Manager. Sometimes Windows seems to upchuck a driver for some reason
probably not even known to Microsoft.
I've had to uninstall a port and then let Windows redetect it in order for
iTunes to find my iPhone again.

I ran and all the tests passed, so if they passed then why isn't it seeing
the iphone? really strange.
