Hello Andrew and Alan, The developer says the next version will have the ability to close files. And there is a spell checker. In Tools, there's the option to find misspelled words. When you choose it, you can flick down to go to the next misspelled word or up to go to the previous one. The word is spelled and read in the current sentence. You can fix it and then move on to the next one. There isn't currently the ability to ignore a word or add it to the dictionary, but it's by far the best spell checker I've seen on the iPhone.
If you're willing to work with text files, Writer or Nebulous should work fine for working interchangeably on the computer and phone. Pages should work too, but I find Pages harder to work with on both than TextEdit and Writer. And with markdown, it is possible to do headings and lists even in plain text files, so I think I'll mostly use Writer.
