Thanks so much, david. Just to be clear though, how do you access the
control panel? There doesn't seem to be an option to access a control
panel while the book is playing, although perhaps it's hiding
somewhere?

and that's a good tip about viewing time elapsed in the lock screen--I
didn't think of that.
