ok, did the reboot. the phone is still a little slow to respond. Took over 10 seconds from the time I tapped the home key until it actually spoke.
I tried the iTunes backup routine here earlier only to have my mac (using voiceover) lock up. I had to use Onyx just to clear all the caches and crust from the various parts of the OS.
