Ok, good start, so if recipient receives the attachment, what do they then 
do to make it work as required?

Ps:  what if you choose to share by Message as it calls it,   ambiguous 
since that could be iMessage or G4bid, an sms attachment.  They charge an 
arm and a leg for those; I'd done it several times before I realised.

I just tried this on my iPhone 4S, running the latest version of IOS 5, and 
it worked.  I received an e-mail with the contact as an attachment.  I 
didn't do anything special.  I just double tapped the share button in the 
persons contact, select e-mail, typed in my e-mail address and pressed send.
