Amy, If you tried to log in several times unsuccessfully chances are your Apple Id may be sort of blocked or whatever you call it and you may have to go to http://AppleID.apple.com and sign in there possibly having to answer security questions in the process or confirming your account in another way if you enabled 2-step verification. In any case, I would go to that URL and see if you can log in with your old password before trying again on your iDevice.
