The two versions of Spotlight search on my 6S are indeed slightly different. If I swipe left to right from the home screen I get the search field, a few of my contacts I recently phoned or texted with as well as a couple of app suggestions, one of them is my Radio Thermostat app which I typically use first thing in the morning. If I touch an app on the home screen and swipe down with 3 fingers I get the search box and the SIRI app suggestions, but not the contacts.
