Last time I checked, which was a month or two ago, this was still true. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Cristóbal Sent: 11 October 2015 06:12 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: The GMail app versus the native IOS app?
If memory serves and unless Google finally fixed it, there was one major accessibility issue with the Gmail app. If you were typing something in the message body and wanted to navigate the text. Be it by character or word, Voiceover wouldn’t speak the selected text. The Outlook app also has this annoying bug too unfortunately. Other than that, the Gmail app worked perfectly fine and was great for push notifications. I used to use it for the notifications and then would reply via the native mail app for the text editing Voiceover abilities. I’ve since deleted the Gmail app since Outlook offers the same push notifications and despite that one VO text editing bug, it’s over all a great app. Especially since you can view calendars and contacts all from within the same app. From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Saturday, October 10, 2015 6:10 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: The GMail app versus the native IOS app? Hi, For the most part, I use the native mail app. However, I do have the Gmail app installed just in case the native app starts to act up and I that annoying error message of "can't get mail the server is not responding..." This is a way for me to begin troubleshooting the problem. Like others, I haven't been informed that the Gmail app is more secure. HTH. My GMail has two step authentication enabled so I’m not too worried about security. I’ve received no such notification thus far and am not too concerned with it either. I found deletion of mail much more difficult in GMail’s own app thus reverted back to the native mail app and have had no problems since switching to IMap access to my mail account. I use the native email program for my GMail account. A few weeks ago, I got a message from Google, telling me that the GMail app would give me a higher level of security than does the native email program , and that if I continued to use the native program, it was, supposedly, at my own risk. I don't know if the app really does offer a higher level of security, or if this is marketing hype, but I decided to take the risk and continue with the native email program. Hello, having never tried the GMail app, but hearing it's great, how is it different from collecting my GMail with the mail app that's in IOS? I only want the e-mail, and don't care about anything else, so is there a better or faster interface that I'm missing if I don't use the GMail app?
