Hello All, As many of you may recall, from time-to-time, some report slower than usual download speeds when updating apps from the Apps Store.
Generally speaking, I ascribe this phenomenon to over-burdened servers, general maintenance, etc. However, about 8 days ago, I noticed that it was taking apps almost 50 times longer to download than usual. At first, I thought it would get better, in a couple of hours, as it has done in the past. It did not get better. In fact, it got worse. The funny thing is, from my perspective, all other internet activities appeared to be normal. That is to say, I could access my email, as usual, browse web pages, as usual, etc. This caused me to conduct some research where I discovered that others had also experienced this problem, extensively. At this point, I was only experiencing the problem on my iPhone. The general consensus was that in order to resolve the slow download speed, one should customize or manually configure DNS server settings at either the local or network level. Before I attempted this, I attempted to download from the Mac App Store and, again, encountered the extremely slow download speed. Even after customizing the DNS server settings, the problem persisted. To make a long story longer (smile), as it turned out, the problem was not Apple but, in fact, my internet service provider. In general terms, a circuit had malfunctioned about a mile away and it was this malfunction that caused the interruption in my service. Now as for why I only noticed the slow-down in the app store? This is because, it is only in the app store that I even begin to tax my download speed limits. This is to say that downloading email, and browsing web pages takes so little data that those tasks did not expose the problem. If I had attempted to stream any kind of media, the problem would have been exposed. So, there you have it; sometimes, it's not Apple's fault.
