I had this problem with trying to back up my iPhone 5s to iTunes on Mac mini. After an hour on the phone to Apple, the solution was to delete the previous backup because it must have been corrupted and was preventing a new backup going through. After deleting that backup, I was able to get Itunes to make a new backup with no problems. Just in case that tip might be useful. Harry
