I played around with this a little more and I see what you mean about the unknown album etc.
I tried this on my iPhone with an mp3 I created from youtube and this is what happened. The song showed up under recently added, but when I double tap the song title it didn't start playing. Instead, it took me to another screen where it said unknown album. There was also a play button on this screen and when I tapped that button my song began to play.
