To add to this thread there is yet another way to get voiceover to speak
through the sonos system although I don't recommend it.
If you are using airplay with an airport express and feeding its audio
to a play5 or connect you can use the roter and choose audio destination
and redirect voiceover to speak through the airplay link.
It does work but i don't recommend it because often the volume of
voiceover will be considerably louder then the source your listening to.
Before sonos and airplay I used to use a cable connected to the dock
connector on the iphone that had 2 RCA plugs on the other end to feed
the iPhone in to my stereo system.
Again voiceover going through the system could get quite anoying at
times so investing in the airport express made it possible for me to
send any audio I wanted to my stereo system without sending voiceover there.
Oh what a pleasure that was.

Hi Joe,
That depends which player you have. If it's a Play 1 or Play 3 then the answer
is no since they don't have an input jack. If it's a Play 5 then as Robin said,
you could use a 3.5mm male to male cord to connect the headphone jack of the
iPhone to the 3.5mm input on the Play 5. Of course you would have to first open
the Sonos controller on your phone and select to play from the Line-In port
because otherwise as soon as you plug in the cord into the headset jack you
wouldn't hear Voiceover any more. You can also configure Sonos to auto detect
when you plug something in and to automatically play this source which is an
even better way to do this. The two other players in the Sonos line which have
inputs are the Connect and Connect Amp which both have RCA type inputs so you
need a 3.5mm male to RCA male cable (the one with the red/white ends).

Excellent, thanks for the clarification. Now, would it be possible for the
Sonos speaker to act as a standard speaker whereby it amplifies anything from
the iPhone, regular Voiceover speech and such?

Hi Joe,
Are you referring to music when you say "personal content" or do you mean things like
audio books or podcasts you may have saved in MP3 format? As Robin pointed out, you can link to a
music library and this can contain really anything in MP3 or AAC format (Sonos also supports other
formats such as FLAC etc.). There is also an option to play content from "On this iPhone"
and this would be anything you sync to your phone and that is accessible to the music app.
Which player do you have? The Play 5 also has the ability to hook up any device
which has a 3.5mm or RCA output.

Subject: Playing Personal Content on Sonos
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to play my own content on Sonos? I've got
one of their speakers but only found the means to play Internet content.
Yet, this must surely be idiot user error. Thanks in advance for some tips on
setting me straight.
