Rick it should not surprise you at all. Apparently there is something broken in iOS 5 that affects Drafts and some other apps. If Drafts works for you in iOS 6 it means Apple has fixed the problem and to be honest I cannot recall what the problem was exactly. THe dev explained it, but that was some months ago.
