Hi,

Whether you realized it or not, to get that free book, you subscribed to the
gold program. You will be billed monthly on whatever card Amazon has on file.
So, for about $15 per month, you get one credit to buy just about any book you
want. The Platinum program gives you two credits per month and is a little less
than twice as much.

But no, you do not need to subscribe to a membership program to use audible.
You can pay the standard book price in cash and have that billed to your card,
just like buying any amazon product. If you think you will use 12 books per
year, then stick with the membership, if the book costs more than your monthly
charge, you come out ahead. If the book costs less, then just buy it with cash
and use your credit for a more expensive book.

Tip, periodically try to cancel your subscription stating as the reason that it
costs too much, and audible will often offer you a deal to stay. It is usually
three months at half price.

Best,
—k
Faith doesn’t give you the answers, it merely stops you from asking the
questions.
