Hi Kirsten. I typically don't delete my messages in this manor, though it does work. Archiving is something entirely different, it stores your messages, quite litterally, in an archive. What I do to delete messages is as follows: When you know exactly what messages you wish to delete, when in the Inbox folder, and not a message, find the edit button located to the right of the heading for the title of the folder. Activate this, and then begin flicking right and double tapping the messages you wish to delete. At the bottom of the current view of messages is a move button. Double tap the move button and this will bring up a list of folders. Navigate to the trash folder, double tap, and all those messages you earlier selected will be moved to your Trash folder, and ultimatley deleted after 2 weeks on your phone. Note that this does not delete your messages from the Gmail server, it moves them into the trash folder.
