I'd be very surprised if a single engineer could knock this out by
themselves in just a few hours. First, this could be touching on some
pretty sensitive code at the core of editing information in the Outlook
app. Even if it isn't, the engineer tasked with fixing this bug would
have to follow the software engineering processes used by Microsoft to
support the Outlook app. this could involve some code reviews and would
definitely involve some regression testing. This fix would then have to
get queued up for a release and it's associated testing and then it
might need to be documented in some release notes or other documentation.
I would never try to tell a doctor, plumber, mechanic, lawyer or any
other professional how easy their job is and that they should be able to
knock some task out in a few hours. In fact, I don't even tell other
software engineers that. Obviously, I know if my own engineers are
sandbagging me, but that's because I know the system they're supporting
and the software engineering processes we're following.

Sieghard,
Does this mean that you can actually set up a GMAIL account to work
with Outlook.com software then? (Sorry, I'm not quite clear from
your response here ...)
In addition, does the Outlook app allow you to delete threads and/or
a group of messages easily?
What else do you particularly like over the native email app?

Well, I tried.
After writing a lengthy note using MBraille in the suggest a
feature section of the Outlook app, it couldn't post my message.
I also tried to reply to this message from the Outlook app, but
I'm not seeing the reply.
I discovered that you can edit your emails if you use MBraille
when composing.
The head of Microsoft Accessibility recently met with my staff at
work, so I will write him directly and encourage my staff to as well.
This is really stupid that we can't use the app without leaving
all our typos.

Hi Mary and others,____

In connection with the discussion of the bug in the native mail
app when replying to a thread, lend your voice to those of us who
write to Microsoft asking them to fix an issue in Outlook which
doesn’t allow Voiceover users to review/edit what they have
written in the email body. If this were fixed, Outlook would be
an excellent alternative to the native mail app and in my opinion
it gives any other mail app whether accessible or not a run for
its money.____
__ __
The problem is that if you write text in the message body field,
Voiceover will read the entire text, but it only clicks when you
try to navigate by characters, words or lines. As far as I can
tell this is pretty much the only problem with Outlook, otherwise
it is a very excellent mail app with way more features than the
native mail app and it gets excellent reviews. Here is what it
says in the app description:____

“The best email app for the iPhone.” - The Verge____
__ __
Meet Outlook for iOS, the app that helps millions of users
connect all their email accounts, calendars and files in one
convenient spot. Newly redesigned, Outlook for iOS lets you do
more from one powerful inbox.____
__ __
See what matters most first with the Focused inbox that keeps the
important messages on top. Switch between your emails and
calendar to schedule your next meeting or share your availability
with just a few taps. Or grab a document from your Files list and
attach it to an email seamlessly.____
__ __
With everything you need only a tap away, managing your busy days
is now easier than ever.____
__ __
Outlook for iOS works with Microsoft Exchange, Office 365,
Outlook.com <http://outlook.com> (including Hotmail and MSN),
Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and iCloud.____
Outlook also connects to OneDrive, Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive
& Box so you can attach any file to an email without having to
download it first to your mobile device.____
You can now protect your inbox with Touch ID and get the privacy
you deserve. Keep your messages away from prying eyes by
requiring your fingerprint or device passcode in order to access
your Outlook account. To enable Touch ID, take a look at the app
Settings under Preferences. (iOS 9 users) Your inbox – and dare
we say it, the world – is now at your fingertips.____
__ __
Anybody who wants to contact Microsoft and ask to have the bug
fixed which prevents Voiceover users from reviewing/editing text
in the email body character by character, word by word, line by
line or by using cut, copy and paste, please install the Outlook
app, add a mail account and then go to Settings (the bottom right
tab), then tap on the first button at the top of the screen
called “Help and Support”. Use the “Suggest a Feature” option
instead of “Contact Support”. The reason for this becomes clear
in the below thread. I had sent in a message using contact
support and received a reply in about 13 minutes (impressive).
This by the way is all fully accessible. Here is my message and
the reply:____

I am a blind user of an iPhone and I have previously sent in this
feedback. I am really wondering when your development team is
going to take the time to make the outlook app usable for
Voiceover users. Microsoft has shown great commitment to excess
ability with many other apps, and while the outlook app is fully
accessible for reading emails it is impossible to compose emails.
At this point it is not possible to type some text and then
review or change it because Voiceover does not read back any text
that has been written in the message body. This is effectively a
deal-breaker. I would be happy to discuss further if my
assistance would be of help, but the issue is really easy to
reproduce if voiceover is turned on and you write some text in
the email message body and then try to review it either by
character or word. It is great to see all these new features are
getting at it, but it is very frustrating that as a blind user I
am not able to use the app. This feedback has also been submitted
by other blind iPhone users who would love to use the Outlook
mail app and I really hope this can be fixed soon.____

Hi, Sieghard____
__ __
I honestly can't give you an ETA for this, but please rest
assured this is something the whole engineering team is working
on.____
No pressure, but I do encourage you to check out UserVoice, our
forum where we are able to let users know when scheduled updates
and fixes for specific features will be implemented. It's
accessible through your Settings. Instead of clicking 'contact
support', press "Suggest a Feature" and you'll be able to add
your voice to a thread there. When we update the product, we're
updating users who expressed interest in the specific features
listed there.____
