I have been warned not to use wi-fi assist, and have been referred to Google
where I can read all the horror stories from innocent iPhone users who have.
I will just have to remember to switch mobile data on when I leave the
BlanchRanch and off when I return.

Yes, that is exactly what it will do, but many people who have a limited data
plan found that it burned through their cellular data very quickly so you want
to consider that.

Will this setting perform the duties that I asked about in my letter? that is,
switch mobile data on when wifi connectivity is poor or non-existent, and then
off when connectivity is reestablished?

Go into settings, then cellular. WIFI assist is at the bottom of a very long
list. I use the three-finger swipe up to get to it,although, sometimes, a
four-finger touch about two-thirds of the way down the screen will get you
there more quickly.

I can not determine the status of Automatically Use Cellular Data When
Wi-fi-Connectivity is Poor in Settings.
VoiceOver doesn’t say whether it is on or off, I want to keep it on off
status. How can I keep it off permanently, please?
