Hello Mary, You know, you raise an interesting subject that has been in the back of my mind for quite some time but in the reverse, in my case. When I look at my friends' phones, I very often see the location service indicator in their status bar even when, like you, a location based app is not being used.
However, although I use many of the same apps as they, and doubtless countless others, I never, and I do mean, never, see the location services indicator in my phone's status bar when those apps are either closed or not tracking my location. The only thing that I can contribute to this is that I have disabled the Background App Refresh service, on my phone. Sometimes, just locking the screen and unlocking it is enough to make the location services tracking notice go away. But other times, it is not. Once, the only way I was able to get rid of it was to reboot the phone. I would love to know why this is happening.
