CardDav is not an app, it's a protocol like IMAP or Exchange Active sync and it is used for setting up accounts to sync contacts. One reason why I use Outlook.com which used to be Hotmail is that it uses Exchange Active Sync and with exchange active sync not only email but also contacts and calendar is synced.
