I'm not sure what you're asking about, but yes it will. If you're talking Gmail, it'll be even easier since Gmail and using your Google account is pretty much the default on an Android device.

You don't need to do anything on the web or at Gmail. You just need to go into
Settings -> Mail, Calendars, Contacts on your phone. Select your Gmail account
and then just make sure Contacts is on. It'll use CardDav and sync your Google
Contacts in the cloud with your addresses in your Google account on your phone.

Thanks for this information. It's extremely helpful. So my next question is,
bearing in mind that my Gmail account has been set up on my phone for ages
(years/since I had it), where do I go to check/make sure that this CardDav
function will work? Do I need to change the settings on the phone itself or do
I need to go into my Gmail account from the Internet and change it from there?

Many thanks.

Right, CardDav is a protocol and not an app. It allows you to sync your
contacts between your phone and a contact server that supports CardDav. The
Mail app in IOS already uses CardDav to sync Google Contacts. You don't need to
set up a separate CardDav account. You just need to check the contacts box when
you set up your Gmail account on your iPhone. It says the following in the URL
that was provided earlier:

Under the hood, Apple is using the open standard IMAP, CalDAV, and
CardDAV services to handle syncing Google services;

You shouldn't have to provide any server information. The Mail app will already
know all of that when you set up your Google account. You'll just need your log
in information for Gmail.

Hi all

Thanks for the information I've just looked for CardDav in the App Store and
it's not there. The only one remotely similar is something called All Sync 2.
Any ideas? Has anyone heard of this app?

This all sounds really good. So is this CardDav something you have to get from
the App Store?, or is it already available on my phone or IPad? Is there any
chance you could e-mail across some full/idiot-proof instructions so I can get
it set up to sync everything to Google Contacts? Also, what would be the
equivalent that I'd need for Android?, as I have an Android tablet too.

Many thanks for all your help with this.

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread closely enough. Using CardDav, which like
I said is now part of the Mail apps Gmail support, will sync your contacts
between your Gmail account on your phone and Google Contacts in the cloud. It
won't sync between iCloud and Google Contacts. I just keep all of my contacts
in Google Contacts and then point all of my devices to it, IOS, Linux, Android,
Windows, and everything is all synced with Google Contacts. I don't use
contacts in iCloud at all.

On 22/07/16 07:12, Christopher Chaltain wrote:
The IOS Mail app supports CardDav (note the correct spelling)
natively when setting up a Gmail account. Just make sure
Contacts is selected and it'll be using CardDav. If you want
this to be your default, such as when you're creating a new
contact, make sure Gmail is set as your default in your contact
settings. In the contacts app, you can restric what you see to
just your Gmail contacts, so you can use this to help make sure
everything is synced up by comparing what you see to what you think you should
see.

The way I did this was so easy and simple and works well. Go
into settings and where it says contacts, mail accounts. Choose
to set up an other account and select cardav. You put your
Google account information there and it moves everything over.
Any time you update on Google, it also updates on your iPhone.
Do a little research on cardav accounts and see if that's what you're wanting
to do.

Hi all

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I want to try to make
sure that all my contacts are completely synced between my
ICloud and Gmail accounts, so that they will all work
regardless of what device I'm using and so that they're all
up-to-date/contain the same information and there aren't loads
of duplicates about. Does anyone know how I can do this?? I'm sure there's a
way, but I've just had a total blank.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.
