Well, I've tried lots of times to work with them but really don't like threads at all, so I'm going to have to find a way through that keeps it simple for me. (I don't mind reading messages related to a subject as they come in a timeline.) I just find threads a bit of a maize really. Does anyone else feel like I do!

Thanks though for the description given. I shall keep that by me and have another go, this time with my iPhone once I am on IOS10, of course.

Hi Richard,

You can delete individual messages although I think when you double tap on a
thread and the rotor is turned to messages that once you flick to a particular
message the delete button at the bottom in the middle should just delete this
message and not prompt you to delete the entire thread. Anyhow, here is how you
can delete individual messages:

When you are in the Inbox and come to a thread/conversation with several
messages, don’t double tap on it. Instead with your rotor on “Actions” which
should be the default, flick down until you get to an item called “Expand
Thread”.
Double tap on that and now the thread will expand and all the messages are now
actually just showing up in whichever mailbox you are in as individual
messages. They continue to do so until you go back to the first message, flick
down to “Collapse Thread” and double tap.
Now you can swipe to any message in the thread, flick up or down to “Delete” in
the actions rotor and double tap to delete the message you are on.

if you double tap on any of the messages in the thread to open/read it you now
are back in the conversation and the messages option is there on the rotor and
you can flick up and down to move through your messages.
The delete button at the bottom of a message once again prompts you to “Trash
Messages” which means if you do so all messages/the entire thread will be
deleted.

I just realized as I am writing this that my phone locked on me and after I
unlock it it lost focus on where I was in the list and when I scrolled down
again to the message I tested this on it was still expanded. Also, leaving the
Mail app and going back to the home screen and then opening mail again left it
expanded.
Only when I closed the mail app in the app switcher and then reopened it was
the thread collapsed again.
Of course you can always go to the first message of the thread and flick down
to “Collapse” and double tap to manually collapse the messages back to a single
entry which contains all the messages of that thread.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but I quite like how Apple has done this
with the exception of the delete button in an open message, I think that should
let you delete the individual message you are in as well.

Sieghard

The only thing I do not like about the new threading method with the message
item in the rotor, is that if you chose to use threading, and you want to
delete just 1 message, it deletes the entire thread. At least, when
experimenting with that feature, I have not found a way to just delete one
message in a thread, or to delete all but one, however you want to look at it.

Correct, in the first few betas this “Messages” item on the rotor wasn’t
working so well yet so for a while I turned off threaded messages in Mail

it, but while it keeps conversations together and with the rotor turned to
Messages it’s super easy to flick up and down browsing through the messages,
they are still separate messages and not part of one big message. You can still
delete individual messages in a conversation which wouldn’t be possible if they
were all lumped into one message.

That doesn't sound very good, unless I'm misunderstanding it. It sounds kind of
like what happens when you get a digest. You know, somebody replies to a
message that they got as part of a digest and doesn't delete everything. So you
get this great long mass. I can't believe that's what they're doing. Sighted
people would hate that. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see what the
final thing looks like.

I believe we misunderstood somewhere along the way xD.

I know about threaded view, it is available since iOS 5 or something but this
is a threaded view for message list and it can be turned on or off.

iOS 10 is bringing several messages grouping in the single conversation as seen
in Gmail app which I really don't want and, according to Tamas Geczy's article
on CBT site it can't be turned off.

Here's the quotation on it:

A new threaded view for messages places all of the conversation as though it
were one long message. This adds a new rotor option: Message. When it is
selected, swiping down with VoiceOver will move you to the next message in the
mail document. You can turn off threading, but not the behavior, or having them
be organized in one giant e-mail message rather than individual ones in a
conversation list within the subject. This might change, as sometimes in-line
message replies are not detected by the app — so you have to scroll through
older messages with greater than signs. In other cases, a button allows you to
expand the older messages. In my experience, this is hit or miss, though with
Gmail it recognized that the quoted thread messages should be hidden most of
the time

Hi!

There's an article on the Cool Blind Tech website about what's new in incoming iOS 10.
Amongst other things, it says message view in Mail app is not separated by message as it
was till now. Now it is more like conversation view similar to text and iMessages and
there is a new option in rotor called "message" which will enable you to switch
between messages in conversation.

I'm not sure will I like this or not, I like clean separate messages and that's
why I don't use Gmail app. I don't even like threads and I'm using it only for
some mail groups I'm subscribed to.

@Sieghard; I was mentioning iOS meaning iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, it would

@Mary; I like the stock app very much but there's gonna be a large turnaround
in iOS 10 with its interface so I'm looking for alternatives. I used Aquamail
on some Android devices and I like its options, features and tones of settings
for fine tuning its operativity.

I agree Android approach to navigating and editing is harder to handle than iOS
but as you correctly said, it doesn't have to do anything with the app itself.
Regarding dictation, I'm getting far better results with Google Speech Input or
whatever is it called in English than Siri Dictation, atleast for my native
language.

I can manage multiple messages on both apps in pretty similar way so I don't
know did you played with Aquamail settins?

@Carol; glad you understand my needs xD.

I have never used aqua male with a keyboard. The other thing I prefer about

I like the fact that I can easily stop dictation in iOS. I like the fact that I
get a tone telling me that dictation has stopped. I don't get that with
android, except when doing Google voice searches. I also find it easier to get
around in the text and make corrections. I realize that this is not specific to
the mail client. And other people's experiences may differ. But that's my two

doesn't take long just to empty the trash now and again! <Smiles>

It's one of those things where I really like doing email with the phone in my

principally because it's not as efficient to delete large quantities of mail. I
shouldn't say I don't like it. It's a fine client. It just doesn't let me go
